Electric-vehicle recharging stations

The program is designed to provide funds to support electric vehicle charging infrastructure grants including: See press release here.

3,000 home chargers at single family and multi-family dwellings

2,000 public chargers at employer and high-density parking areas

50 fast chargers within close proximity to highways

The press release goes on to say, “In the Bay Area, the transportation sector accounts for more than 50 percent of air pollution. Significant emission reductions from the transportation sector will help the Bay area attain and maintain state and national air quality standards.

The residential portion of the program will kick off by this winter, Ralph Borrmann said.

The board has not decided the exact method for disbursing the funds to residents, Borrmann acknowledged; however, he suggested that it could be done through a voucher or rebate program. The charging stations will be manufactured by Coulomb Technologies, a company that produces electric vehicle infrastructure systems.

The scale of the project is much larger than previous initiatives; the city of San Francisco installed three public charging stations in 2009.”

A related air district program pays owners of gasoline cars 21 years old or older, $1,000 dollars to stop driving them, in order to reduce air pollution.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District oversees air quality in the nine county Bay Area region of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma Counties.
